PROGRAM NOTES FOR nodes.branches.loops:
Nodes, branches, and loops are the three fundamental building blocks of all electric circuits. As I often find inspiration for my music in technology, I thought it would be interesting to sonically explore these fundamental concepts in individual movements: points of connection between two or more elements (nodes), the splitting of a path (branches), and closed paths (loops). Each movement begins with the same four-note motive staggered across the quartet, and it is up to the unique “concept” of each movement (with all of their technical and more general inferences) to take the music in different directions.
