PROJECTS
other hats I like to wear...
Most of my creative work is in the form of concert music, but I'm like to do lots of different things!
This section is where I can dump more info on some of the other various activities I'm involved in, be it projects associated with local bands and recording projects, new technologies I'm exploring and developing, or interdisciplinary collaborations.
Music + Coastal Ecology
In 2024, I began an ongoing project connecting my activities in music composition and technology with marine scientists associated with the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long-Term Ecological Research Project. This has led to multiple collaborations that have involved audio installations, new concert works, data sonification, and field recording. Visit the linked page for a deep dive into my collaborations with scientists committed to better understanding and protecting our coastal environments.

max patches 'n stuff
For a long time, my teaching has involved classes that teach composers and other musicians how to create their own customized patches or applications using Max, an object-based programming environment that's particularly good at signal processing, data mapping, and creating interactive multimedia projects. Most of what I do in Max is creating applications to be used in the performance of a piece with some kind of electronic component. But sometimes I get saucy and make other things in Max that other people might like to download and explore.
Lost Tree Sound
Ever since I was a teenager, I led a double-life of writing for (and playing in) rock bands at the same time I played in and wrote for classical ensembles. After a long hiatus, I started playing in bands again in the pandemic, which also led to us recording music together. I created Lost Tree Sound as a tiny local label to independently release recorded music I was involved in producing.

Vectory Gardens
When I had a sudden itch to do more songwriting during the pandemic, a lot of my song ideas had a good bit of crossover with my classical compositions: playing with electronics, wonky time signatures, old classic synthesizers and new microtonal electronic instruments I was building in max patches. I decided to record and release a rather eclectic collection of songs under the name Vectory Gardens, which released an inaugural self-titled album in early 2026. I like to think I'll release more Vectory Gardens music in the future, with little regard for stylistic consistency or self-promotion.
